ABOUT MAPUTO
Maputo is known as aesthetically attractive. With wide avenues lined by jacaranda and acacia trees, it has earned the nicknames City of Acacias and the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. A city with a vibrant cultural scene, with many restaurants, music, performance venues, and local film industry.
WHAT TO DO ?
Maputo has a number of landmarks that are worth visiting:
Maputo Central Train Station remains one of the city’s most memorable historic structures.
At FEIMA – you can find a myriad of handmade local crafts. The typical capulana, a local colorful fabric that is used in various ways, is a perfect souvenir to take home. Find an abundance of baskets, wooden boxes, colorfully printed T-shirts, local jewelry, carved bowls, restaurants with local food, and much, much more.
At 1 hour distance from Maputo you have the Maputo Special Reserve, known as The Elephant Reserve, it is one of the “Pearls” of Mozambique.
Casa de Ferro (The Iron House) perplexes its visitors with its impractical building material highly unsuitable for a hot tropical climate.
Museu De Historia Natural de Maputo exhibits some rather spooky dioramas with taxidermy specimens, as well as a collection of bleached elephant fetuses.

GETTING THERE
Most international flights to/from Mozambique use Maputo’s airport.

By car
The highway from Johannesburg to Maputo is in very good shape, lots of people cross the border daily.
Malaria
Maputo is not considered at high risk for malaria, nevertheless, Mozambique is considered in general a malarial region. We do not advise taking preventive medication traveling to Maputo, however before traveling, please consult your doctor for recommendations.
Restaurants
The city of Acacias has every couple of months a restaurant opening. Is a cosmopolitan city that invites for a sunset drink.
Zambi – Located on the Maputo Seaboard, reference for a good time spent with friends, good food and excellent wine, with a classy balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Dhow – well-known and highly popular restaurant and retail outlet in Mozambique. It showcases a contemporary concept, an art gallery with an eclectic mix of fashion and design within a trendy restaurant setting.
Medical Emergencies
